So, you just bought your first drone and you are wondering what to do with it? Well, in this article we are going to talk about three fun things that you can do with a drone. If you are reading this article, we are going to go ahead and assume that you are rather new to this hobby. We are also going to assume that, since you are new to this hobby, you bought a standard drone and not a super specialized one such as the ones used for racing or extreme cinematography.
When I say normal drones though, I am referencing a rather wide range of drones. Everything from the $100 drones you can grab at the hobby store to the $2000 DJI drones fit into that category. However, whether you spent $2000 or $100, you can still have fun with your drone! So, let’s get into the first part of this article!
#1 – Take Some Photos
Now, this first one does apply to drones that have cameras. However, you don’t need to have the best camera to have some fun taking some photos! One thing that I always find fun with my drone is taking selfies in places that would be hard to hold a camera. For example, I often go biking and can use my drone to take pictures of me standing on a ledge or pictures of riding. There are a lot of options when it comes to taking drone selfies, so this is your time to get creative!
You can also take things like sunset pictures! As someone who has been flying drones for quite a while, I can attest to the fact that the sunset looks a lot prettier from a drone’s perspective! Simply going up and taking a few drone shots will for sure make your day! Then, you can go and check them out on the computer. I always find it fun to view them after because it is a perspective that we don’t often get to see here on the ground.
#2 – Try Some Acrobatics
As you can see in the title, this section is about acrobatics. Now, this one actually applies more to the cheaper drones. If you just bought the top of the line DJI drone, I would say you may want to get to know your drone a little more before you attempt any crazy flying. However, for cheaper drones, this is a blast! Try just finding an open airfield where you can zoom around at low altitudes for a bit. You can fly POV if your drone has a camera or just through line of sight from the ground.
It is also fun to set up course in larger airfield and try to complete them as quickly as possible! This will be a lot of fun and will help you get to know your drone, the controls, and how it flies! I will warn again though, really learn how to fly your drone before you attempt anything crazy. Drones are not always very durable and fixing or replacing them can get quite expensive. That being said, go have some fun with some fast flying!
#3 – Go Exploring
Depending on how long the range of your drone is, exploring can be an extremely fun option. Most drones have pretty long ranges today, but make sure you know your drones range before you fly it somewhere where it may not get signal. Now, I like to find old abandoned places and explore them with my drone. For example, I don’t always want to walk up an old dilapidated building for the fear of getting hurt inside. However, with some careful flying, I can easily use my drone to explore new places and record some awesome footage!
I also think that it can be really cool to explore certain places in nature. For example, flying up and above waterfalls is supercool, as well as flying out near the end of piers or ridges. So, go try some exploring for yourself! Make sure though that you do not fly into any illegal or off-limits area. You can get in trouble for this and I would highly recommend that you know the laws of an area before you do any exploring.
There are a lot of ways to have fun with your drone, even more than are listed here. However, these are the ones that I enjoy so I thought that I would share them with you guys. I currently have a DJI drone that I will be doing a review on soon! I hope that this article helps you find something enjoyable to do with your drone and helps you get the best out of it. Remember, be careful while flying! Now, go out and do some fun flying!
