In this video, we can see the United States military testing their new Northrop Grumman drone. The drone has been in development for many years now and has recently been delivered to the Military. This vehicle is still technically in testing but is currently flight ready. The military is going to start using it and flying it in their day to day missions so that Northrop Grumman can collect testing data to better the platform.
The drone itself cost over a billion dollars and features some of the newest flight and military technology available. The drone is classified as an unmanned combat vehicle and it serves a number of different purposes. Firstly, the drone will be serving on a United States aircraft carrier, so it is capable of the short takeoffs and landings that are necessary for aircraft carriers.
The aircraft will serve as a support aircraft for the current manned aircraft on the carrier. It can run surveillance missions as well as fighter support missions. The aircraft will also act as a high-speed refueling aircraft that is capable of extending the range of the entire fleet. Using both autonomous technology and human control interfaces, the UAV is capable of flying side by side with fleet. There will be more of these UAVs coming to the Military in the future!
