As it is one of my favorite small jets, I thought I should write an article about the Pilatus PC-24. In this article, I am going to talk about some of the traits and specifications of the Pilatus PC-24. If you already know about this jet, then you probably know how cool it is. Pilatus is one of my favorite aviation companies, and I plan to cover all of their airplanes at some point!
The PC-24 is a small jet that is made by the airplane maker Pilatus. The jet falls into both the small jet category and a category that it has created for itself, which is the ‘Super-Versatile’ jet. Pilatus often throws this term around when talking about the jet but, their boasting is not unwarranted. The PC-24 has some pretty crazy features! But before we get into all of the capabilities of this jet, let’s talk about the specifications and the cabin.
I am going to start with the cabin because it is probably the least cool part of this jet, which sounds funny to say about a private jet. The PC-24 has a small cabin that can be configured to fit 6 or 8 passengers. It is a nice cabin but simple. The seat are comfy but nothing luxury like you may see in other private jets. This cabin really shoots for a simpler and more versatile feeling as opposed to trying to achieve the height of luxury.
However, that’s not to say that this still isn’t a nice aircraft. While the interior is simple, the materials are nice and all high quality. There are tables that allow for work to get done using the on-board Wi-Fi. To add to this, all of the chairs can be reclined fully to turn into comfortable beds for red-eye flights. There is one thing about the cabin though that stands out from other aircraft, and that is it versatility.
The side of the cabin has a large doors that makes loading the cabin with supplies or materials much easier. The seats can be taken out in under 30 minutes so that you can fits more in the cabin. The plane can be a private jet one moment and then a cargo transport the next. This really is the magic of the Pilatus line-up of planes. Now, let’s talk about the flight characteristic of this plane that make it so cool for many pilots to fly!
Pilatus had a huge success with their earlier propeller aircraft, the PC-12, and they tried to keep all of the things that customers loved about that plane with the PC-24. This is one of the only jet aircraft in the world that can land on almost any runway. If you want to touchdown in a grassy field in the mid-west for lunch and then fly to New York for dinner, you can do that. This plane can land on tarmac, grass, dirt, and sandy runways without a problem. As you may have guessed, it can also quite impressively takeoff from those types of runways as well.
The PC-24 has a massive wing area which allows it to fly at very low speeds. This is great news for pilots because it means that the aircraft is not demanding on takeoff or landing! You can land the plane on short runways and takeoff at slow speeds. However, once you get in the air, this jet retains all the capabilities of, well, a jet! It is fast and maneuverable and has plenty of lifting power for any job that you need it to get done!
Finally, the jet also has some more business oriented features. For example, the plane is extremely easy to pilot, which means that you pilots will be much happier flying this business jet. The jet also has very low maintenance costs when compared with competitors and it has a high durability rating, which means that things don’t often break. Now, let’s take a lot at the power houses on this airplane and the speed specifications.
The Pilatus PC-24 is powered by two Williams FJ44 turbofans. These are mounted on the body at the rear of the aircraft, similar to many other small jets. The turbofans will push the aircraft to a top speed of 506 mph, which is pretty fast for the small jet category. The jet is also capable of top speed cruising and can cruise at 506 mph for the entirety of the journey. The jet has a rated range of over 2,000 miles when carrying 6 passengers, though the actual range may be a little lower than that when carrying 8 passengers. Finally, the jet is also outfitted with all of the new cockpit technology and safety equipment as Pilatus partnered with Honeywell to create the cockpit.
The Pilatus PC-24 is one of the coolest small jets on the market right now. It is extremely versatile, hence the super-versatile class, and it is extremely easy to own. With low costs, easy flying, cabin versatility, and the ability to land almost anywhere, it is no wonder this is such a high selling aircraft. Many businesses and private owners all around the world use this jet on a day to day basis. This is currently the pinnacle of the small jet category.
